Electronic magnifiers ( usually known as CCTV magnifiers) can really change peoples lives. They offer greater magnification than optical magnifiers. But because it is electronic the magnification is variable and patients can often achieve tasks that they could not do with conventional magnifiers e.g. crosswords, writing, filling in forms, threading a needle etc. They also allow patients to read from a "normal" distance. They are not available through low vision clinics but they are well worth trying. We are always happy to let patients try them in their own home without obligation.
